Barbershop Stories is a storytelling series, which includes a live show and podcast, created by storyteller, producer and communications coach Dawn J. Fraser. The live show is co hosted by comedian Mike Brown, and features performers telling true stories to a live audience. Set in the culturally and artistically diverse neighborhoods around New York City, and taking place in an actual hair salons and barbershops, the show showcases some of the region's best performers including storytellers, comedians, and memoirists... then we chop off their hair. 


Dawn J. Fraser - Creator, Host and Producer

Dawn J. Fraser is a storyteller, speaker and communications coach who claims both San Jose, California and Brooklyn, NYC as her bi coastal homes. She is a Lead Instructor with the storytelling organization The Moth, and independently teaches workshops to students, entrepreneurs, and business owners to develop stories that serve as a roadmap for personal and professional achievement. She was featured among some of the nation's top innovators as a speaker at TED@NYC, and her stories about growing up as a twin and a first generation Trinidadian have been featured on storytelling shows including The MothStory ColliderTOLD and RISK!

Dawn is one of the Co-Founders of the Oakland based nonprofit ‘Art in Action’ (currently a division of United Roots Oakland) and has worked on performance and advocacy programs in countries including Brazil, Jamaica and Ghana. She is currently a national speaker on the application of storytelling in developing vision, identity and leadership potential. Mike Brown is a hilarious, truly original New York comedian. “Brown’s commentary is smart, sharp and hilarious,” with material ranging from the complexities of mental health, pop-culture, and understanding America. Mike is a correspondent on the Emmy Nominated Full Frontal with Samantha Bee on TBS, where he explores sociopolitical topics with polarizing figures.

Multifaceted producer with over a decade of media industry expertise, Mike Brown has produced “Comedy Outliers”, a live comedy showcase and podcast featured in the New York Comedy Festival. Mike Brown wrote/created/starred in critically-acclaimed web series "Can't Stop, Won't Stop,” which later went into production at FX Networks.

Mike Brown has written and co-starred in “MTV’s Decoded with Franchesca Ramsey” and has costarred in numerous viral videos amassing over 10,000,000+ views.

As an actor, Mike Brown has performed at the Apollo, with renowned Shakespeare in the Park, and a few independent films. Mike has performed comedy on NBC, MTV, Comedy Central, Adult Swim, E!, SIRIUS XM, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and has been a guest on popular podcasts such as Keith and the Girl, The Black Guy Who Tips and The Hilarious World of Depression.  He's performed in multiple festivals including the New York Comedy Festival and San Francisco SketchFest where he was named one of Rooftop’s Comics to Watch.

Currently Mike Brown can be seen on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee on TBS , working on his upcoming debut stand up album or sharpening his acting skills with veteran Joan Rosenfels.
